This action figure was supposed to be my little brother's Christmas gift, but once I got it in the post, I decided to keep it for myself!!! Allow me to explain, he does archery at Uni, so I was bidding on a Green Arrow mini-figure and this one was a back-up in case I couldn't win it. Everything ended well, he got a cool figure and I got one as well.
The turntable:
I couldn't find the comic reference used for the design of this figure, the green colour suggested me it could be something related with Green Arrow, but despite making reference to Elseworlds in the Collectors Card, I just couldn't find any comic mashing both character or anything similar (which makes you wonder why this hasn't happened yet). So it seems that the intention behind this figure is to adapt Bats to alternate realities provided by the 'Elseworlds' series.
The Official Collector's Card that comes with the figure tells you about the background of this Cape Crusader's incarnation, he seems more a soldier than a 'Robin Hood' type of character:
The sculpt of the figure is very good (nineties standards). The amount of detail is amazing, happy with the body proportions and the cape blowing -and going around one of Batman's leg- is beautiful. Same for the belt and straps holding the Bat-logo on the chest and the ones around his thighs and arms, or the studs along the border of the cape. For me the only thing that lets this figure down is the headpiece (I have this thing with 'realistic' sculpts, they rarely work at this scale), the cowl looks like it's meant to be more like a hoody and the ears don't have an attractive shape, Something else could be done to the whole head to make this an exceptional piece.
The accessories are another small issue, the long bow and the arrows are supposed to be 'the toy part', you can actually throw the arrows using the nylon cord from the long bow and the small notch that the arrows have at its end. As a result, the long bow (that comes with a handle on the left side) looks really out of scale and the arrows design is very simplistic and unrelated to the overall look.
The figure is basically made of a pale green where the details have been painted in darker tones of green. The painting is OK as well, the Bat-logo is nicely done and the straps look clean and well defined. It would be great if they managed to paint the studs in the cape. The accessories are all made of brown plastic.
For an action figure that is basically a toy the articulations are very limited. You can get the head to rotate, both legs also rotate from the hips, but only the right arm is articulated from the shoulder. The figure is pretty much already posed (a fact reinforced by the cape), I read that this line wasn't particularly popular, I wonder if this is the reason. I imagine that this won't give you many options to play, but it look cool as a displayed piece.
A look at the back of the figure (I didn't take the cape off my mine because I didn't want to damage or scratch the head), note the holder for the quiver in the right side:
The cape, here note the holder for the knife:
When I bought this one (used), it was amazing to realise that the figure is 20 years old, it was very well kept and it came with all the extras and the Official Collector Card. This is a closer look at the accessories:
This is a picture of the just arrived Batman, you can see the Card on the left, unlike the one I found on-line, the card is green, not purple.
Checking this post, it seemed I complained a lot about this figure, but in reality I really like it, and I really think it is a quality one that looks amazing on the shelf, I'm very pleased that I came across this one and there are already a couple other figures from this line that I would like to have.
