Kinder Surprise - DC Super Friends Easter Egg 2018: Batman

I picked up this Kinder Surprise Egg about 2 months before Easter and my wife made me wait to open it and find out if I got Batman!!!

I got Batman and I really liked the figure, so the wait was worthwhile, but then I found some details that make this an even more interesting collectable.

The figure is based on the DC Super Friends Comic book series (May 2008-29 issues) which is based on the Fisher-Price Imaginext DC Super Friends toy line, which is one of many worlds from the Imaginext System. This is basically an Imaginext figure -my least favourite line of Batman figures ever- that I actually like.

This is the Comic Book used as inspiration for this Batman:

The DC Super Friends Comic also spread its run through Graphic Novels, sticker and colouring books, and from the art that we can see in the chocolate box it's very clear that there is a strong link between it and all the aforementioned graphic material.

And this is the kind of figure that inspired it all:

This Batman is made of hard plastic and shows the popular grey and blue colour scheme on his suit. The cape is a separate piece with a simple clip system to get attached to the neck. As for accessories, the figure brings a big Bat-signal tied to a piece of string that either can be used to swing the toy or -more ingeniously- can be used as a baseplate.

The paint job is very good with the Bat-symbol in the chest very well made with crisp lines including a black border around it.

The figure doesn't have articulation whatsoever; the sculpt has a very dynamic pose though, not only the detail of the anatomy is very attractive, but also the proportions of the body are well achieved and try to be faithful to the source, minor personal issue with the size of the hands that for my test are a little too big. All that said Batman looks like he is landing on the floor after a big jump which combined with the possibility of using the baseplate makes a very nice piece for display.

These are the boxes that you could find at the supermarkets, DC Super Friends in blue and DC SuperHero Girls in pink, a lot of people didn't like this and made a whole issue about gender stereotypes. By the time we wanted to get an egg for my daughter the pink boxes were gone, she went pink mainly because she loves Wonder Woman not because it was pink, I wonder if sometimes we underestimate kids, mainly girls. mainly geek girls.

The other characters that you could get in the Easter eggs were Superman and The Flash
