Funko POP! and Batman The Animated Series combined!!! It was a matter of time and it is finally here. Anniversary gift from the wife, she knows how much I love BTAS.
This figure is inspired by the iconic Batman art-deco style from the revered Batman The Animated Series created by Bruce Timm and Paul Dini.
Funko made a complete re-sculpt of the traditional POP! figure to capture the look of BTAS, less the basic shape of the head (and proportions), everything seems to have changed.
The ears have been slightly moved back, the eyes have some sort of eyelids to give Batman his serious look, the mask is 'v' shaped with the tip reinforcing the nose. The identifiable jaw of the original character though seems to have not been dealt with, the face retains his roundness in opposition to the hard-line of the Animated one.
The cape has been sculpted with a little of 'wind movement' and keeps the original black colour outside and the blue colour inside just like in the cartoon.
The body proportions are also portrayed in the figure, you can see the muscular chest, the thinner legs, and overall, the simplicity of the body's geometry.
All the little details are there, the beautifully detailed logo, the respect for the shape of the gauntlets, utility belt and boots, all delivering a great figure.
This has to be one of the most interesting exercises on creating a toy, trying to translate the cartoon version of a comic character into another very cartoony style, the result, for me, is very successful, you'll know who this Batman is, you'll recognise what they were trying to do. And you will love it!!!
